All applicants for a Class 1 security licence, except those applying for a 1E licence, must complete the NSW Security Licence Course (SLC) through a NSW Approved Organisation.

Approved Organisations

The Security Licensing and Enforcement Directorate (SLED) provides a list of Approved Organisations that conduct these courses in NSW. You can view the list here.

Requirements for Class 1 Licence Applicants

All Class 1 licence applicants, except for 1E, are required to complete the following:

  1. SLED Pre-Enrolment Assessment: This includes a language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) test.
  2. First Aid Certificate: Applicants must have a current first aid certificate (HLTAID011 or HLTAID014) issued within the past three years by a Registered Training Organisation. SLED will accept the superseded HLTAID003 and HLTAID006 qualifications if they were completed before 30 June 2022. The first aid certificate must be renewed every three years to maintain a NSW security licence.
    • HLTAID011 (Apply First Aid): Required for Class 1A or 1C licences.
    • HLTAID014 (Provide Advanced First Aid): Required for Class 1B, 1D, or 1F licences.
  3. CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations: Applicants must complete the current approved mandatory units via a SLED-Approved Organisation.

The specific mandatory units for all Class 1 licence subclasses are detailed in the NSW SLC course structure, which you can view here (PDF).

Specialist Licence Requirements

  • HLTAID014 (Provide Advanced First Aid) within the past three years.
  • The NSW Security Licence Course required for the specific subclass via a SLED Approved Organisation.

Additional Units for Specialist Licences

  • 1B Bodyguard Subclass: Complete units from CPP31418 Certificate III in Close Protection and HLTAID014 (Provide Advanced First Aid).
  • 1C Cash-in-Transit Guard Subclass: Complete the following Cash-in-Transit Guard units:
